Updike’s Rules on Book Reviews

I personally love John Updike, author of such novels as The Witches of Eastwick, Roger’s Version, Toward the End of Time, and Brazil. Many do not, however. I admit that his prose can be tedius at times, and many might consider his work (especially his early work) pornographic. That’s fine: To each his own. But these few lines of advice for reviewing books is spot on:
